Istanbul Police Seized Smuggled Medicine Worth 400 Million Lira
Istanbul Police Department’s Anti-Smuggling Unit took action upon receiving information about the illegal import of medicine from abroad to Turkey through unauthorized channels, which were then distributed in the black market.
Following technical and physical surveillance, operations were carried out at the identified addresses in Fatih and Ümraniye districts. During the searches conducted in underground warehouses, a total of 256,360 units of medicine, with an approximate market value of 400 million lira, were seized.
Among the seized medicines were high-priced products used for the treatment of cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, birth control, COPD, and eczema, as well as special drugs that can only be imported with patient information.
2 PEOPLE ARRESTED
As a result of the operation, 3 individuals were taken into custody. While 2 of the suspects were arrested after being referred to the court following the procedures at the police station, one person was released under judicial control.
